A. Sugar
Sugar! Ahhh, who doesn't love sugar! I still eat sugar but to a much lesser degree than I used to now that I understand how it can negatively affect my mood, my food intake and just about everything else body related!
I talk a lot about blood sugar levels and how it is important to the body and brain to maintain a constant happy amount of sugar in the blood in order to avoid peaks and valleys. When you eat food, your body breaks down the food into glucose which is used as energy for the body. When you have a large amount of food and the body breaks it all down into sugar you have a large amount which is the peak. After a few hours of burning off the sugar your blood levels can go down (valley) which gives you that tired feeling. If you keep a constant even flow of sugar in your blood stream your body and brain are much happier.
So how do you do that? You eat 5-6 small meals a day or 3 meals plus 2 snacks per day. Eating smaller amounts of food helps your stomach keep from feeling left out, it keeps your blood sugar levels even and your energy and mood are good.
Have you ever felt the peaks and valleys after binging? You bet! Would you like to try to eat smaller meals and see how you feel?
