F. Protein, Carbs and Fat
Do you understand what protein, carbs and fat are? Each of these three nutrients play an important role in the body. Yes, even fat! Your body needs each of these macronutrients to survive but having too much of one thing can really throw off the body's internal happiness meter!
When you consume a large amount of carbohydrates (carbs) your body breaks them down into sugars that it can use for fuel. Too much sugar means your blood sugar levels peak and valley. We want to try to keep a nice even blood sugar level in the body and a way to do that is to eat protein, carbs and fat together. So for instance, for lunch instead of having a bowl of pasta with tomato sauce, add some protein to it. have pasta with meat sauce. Or you could add some chicken to your salad.
Does anyone need help with figuring out what protein, carbs and fats are? I included a link in the program (http://www.iom.edu/Object.File/Master/7/300/Webtablemacro.pdf) with a list of foods but we can talk about it here too. Let me know what you need help with. Here is a quick overview:
Protein includes meat, eggs, fish, chicken, nuts, yogurt, cheese
Carbs are gains, and vegetables = breads, pasta, cereal, rice, veggies, fruits
Fats are butter, oil, whole milk, fats on meats
