E. Depression
Depression is one of the most common factors associated with eating disorders and I for one suffered from mild depression for a time. My doctor was quick to prescribe an anti-depressant, and for me, it only made me feel worse. I later learned that one side effect to an anti-depressant is that it can make your symptoms worse. Go figure!
Now if you are suffering from depression and your doctor has prescribed medication for you to take, you should continue to do so until you discuss your options with him/her. Taking yourself off of a medication can be dangerous not only to your mental condition but to your physical body.
Depression can affect anyone, anywhere, at any age, at any time. Are you feeling depressed? We talk about the symptoms of depression in the program and because this is a holistic program I will give a holistic approach to healing depression.
Reducing stress is HUGE when it comes to fighting depression. (When we get to module three we will be doing a lot of stress reduction techniques.) But for now, lets do what we can for our bodies to reduce stress. You can start to take supplements of Fish Oil and Co Q10 which all help regulate metabolism which means they help control sugar levels in your body. When you regulate sugar levels you are less likely to crave foods and the Omega 3's in the fish oil help relieve depression because it is a fatty acid. Remember, your brain is 60% fat so it loves these healthy fatty acids. Be sure to read up on supplements and check to make sure they do not interact with any medications you are currently taking. Try checking this site for interactions or consult your doctor. http://www.wellness.com/resources/complementary%20and%20alternative%20medicine/33_Supplement%20Interaction_idx.htm
What are you doing now to combat depression? Let's discuss it here.
